In this introduction to wax carving, students will learn some historical information on the the technique of “Lost wax” to understand its uses, applications and benefits. Students will learn about the tools used, and even how to make some. As well as the different types of wax that can be used and how to calculate weight of wax to metal. Templates and how to transfer, how to properly file and the use of flex shaft with wax. After covering the basics students will be given their own wax to begin sculpting their own piece guided by the instructor. The goal of this class will be to help the student understand the technique of carving out the negative space to sculpt wax into something beautiful. Although we will not be casting our wax in this class the students will learn the basics of the casting processes that can be used. Along with contact information of casting houses.
