Handheld Chime with Jean Matray 2/3/19

Handheld Chime with Jean Matray 2/3/19

One Day Workshop

Sunday, February 3rd 10:00am-4:00pm

Estimated materials $20

A gentle shake to this chime will make a beautiful and gentle sound. During this class you will create a 5 or 7 bell handheld chime. Our class will begin with a ring of a chime, a 5 minute meditation, followed by the initial “sinking” (a forming technique) of the first bell. We will continue to anneal (soften) and hammer (harden) until the proper shape and sound is achieved for each bell. Once completed students will drill, finish and hang the bells from leather cord on a tree branch.  Bring your own tree limb if you have one (ask Jean about the required shape), or they will be available. No experience necessary, but is helpful. Many hours of hammering are required, not best for those with shoulder or hand issues.
