Traditionally Japanese Sashiko stitching was used as a way to repair worn clothing or create layers of fabric for warmth with a simple running stitch.

What first began in the Edo period out of necessity has become more decorative these days using colored Sashiko thread and geometric patterns in addition to the traditional white thread. .

This one-day class introduces the basics of Japanese Sashiko stitching using simple running stitches and classic patterns. You’ll learn how to create a grid for a basic start to build on for future stitching and enjoy the calming rhythm of this traditional technique.

Perfect for beginners—no experience needed.
