Experience the past and the future of making in this unique cross-disciplinary workshop. Blending traditional blacksmithing with modern digital fabrication. This class invites you to create a truly personalized piece of functional art.
In the Littleton Studio School metal studio, you will explore the hands-on craft of blacksmithing. You’ll texture a copper bowl and forge a steel handle using traditional hammer and anvil techniques, then assemble the pieces by riveting them together. From there, the class heads downstairs to White Mountain Science, Inc., where you’ll use a laser engraver to bring your design to life. Engrave custom graphics, intricate patterns, or personalized text directly into the metal handle.
A live Zoom session on Thursday, October 1st from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. will help you prepare your digital artwork. Students will then have a couple of weeks to develop their ideas into graphics files for the engraver.
This class is a great fit for a parent and teen; please sign up as two people.
Skill Level: Beginners welcome
