Join us for a unique, hands-on crafting experience. No sewing required! Create your own stunning 8x8 Barn Quilt using the traditional Japanese art of Kinusaiga! Kinusaiga is a traditional Japanese craft often described as "fabric patchwork without needles." Created in 1980s Japan by Maiko Takashi. Takashi created Kinusaiga as a respectful, breathtaking way to upcycle every single scrap of old Kimono fabric. Kimonos are traditionally made of exquisite, expensive silk; this created a clever way to recycle and upcycle expensive fabric scraps from old silk Kimonos. Originally made on wooden blocks, modern crafters now use lightweight foam boards to make it accessible to everyone.

The Process: Artists cut grooves into a wooden or foam base.

The Technique: Fabric pieces are tucked into the grooves using a special tool.

The Result: A beautiful, raised, 3D mosaic image that looks like a quilt.

Fair warning: Kinusaiga is highly addictive!
