This one-day workshop offers participants the opportunity to hand-craft a personal set of prayer beads rooted in both tradition and contemporary practice. Drawing from global histories of rosaries, malas, and other bead-based devotional tools, the class explores how repetitive, tactile practices have long supported focus, reflection, and emotional regulation across cultures and belief systems.

Participants will be introduced to the historical and cultural use of prayer beads in interfaith contexts, including discussions of bead numbers, materials, and their symbolic and practical significance. Emphasis will be placed on understanding prayer beads as functional objects—tools that support grounding, meditation, and intentional pause in daily life—rather than as abstract or esoteric symbols.

Each participant will construct a complete set of prayer beads using 14mm rosewood beads along with complementary materials. Participants will attach to their beads, integrating basic jewelry-making techniques. Instruction will cover stringing methods, spacing, durability, and finishing, ensuring the completed piece is both beautiful and well-crafted.

The workshop is designed to be calm, focused, and welcoming to all backgrounds and belief systems. No prior jewelry or meditation experience is required. The environment supports careful making, conversation, and quiet attention, offering a practical way to step back from external pressures and engage in a meaningful, hands-on practice.
