Mugs are a favorite gift, both to receive and to give, but it might surprise you how many strong opinions people have about what makes the perfect mug. This class will explore the characteristics of mugs that might make people want to use a particular one every day or leave one in the back of the cupboard and never use it.

Our goal will be to finish the class with 4-6 completed mugs and have a better understanding of all the different things about mugs that make them so beloved and personal. We’ll work on heft, capacity, handles, lips, colors, balance, surface design, and maybe end up with a new favorite mug of our own and some excellent gifts for our family or friends or both!

Some throwing experience will be helpful, but mugs can be hand-built, too. There is no right or wrong way to make a mug, but knowing what you want and how to produce it is a valuable skill in pottery making. Get a handle on yours!
